Monday, Aug 12th, 2024. Weight 150, AZ Temp 85° Today was an absolutely gorgeous day! We had full sun and a cool breeze. Time to venture out. I received so many recommendations to visit the chapel in the hill, a church that appears to be built into the side of a mountain. It sounded intriguing and I heard the views are pretty spectacular. The Chapel of the Holy Cross was completed in 1956, took 18 months to complete and cost $300,000. The Chapel is, in fact, wedged between two walls of ancient red rock. The church welcomes all religions and denominations, however, it is a Catholic church so only eligible Catholic couples can marry there.
I took my chances on finding an Uber since it's 6 miles away and lucked out. My Uber driver, Bill, actually offered to hang out while I visited the chapel. He was certain I'd have a hard time finding an Uber back. I guess I lucked out. I chose to climb up to the church versus being driven up so that I could see it from all angles. It was certainly breathtaking. I took in a sweeping view of the valley including Chapel Rock and numerous sandstone formations on Coconino National Forest. It was worth the $30 Uber trip cost (plus tip). And choosing to go on a Monday was a good idea. It was busy, but Uber Bill said it was nothing compared to the weekend.

You should have got a pic with Bill! 😃
