The adventures here are almost over. Saturday, August 17th, 2024. My last full day with Jon here and it has been amazing. Having him here to share these experiences was so fullfilling. We had another great day of exploring, learning new things and, yep, you guessed it, going to the movies :). Best thing to do in the AZ heat! Well, one of them anyway.
Today we ventured out to Cathedral Rock for a hike. It was another beautiful, cloudless, AZ sky. We discovered the Verde Shuttle which for $2/person we were able to take the 5+ miles to the free shuttle pick up which brought us directly to the Trailhead. No baking in the heat BEFORE the hike began :). It was a dusty but easy trail ... and so rather than having to focus on navigating rocky paths and ups and downs, we were able to walk with ease and just talked non-stop. It was such a great day for reflection and connection. We didn't want the day to end.
When we took the free shuttle back to the park and ride, we decided to walk the quarter mile or so to a shopping area and bum around a little. I found a bead shop and picked out some beads to (eventually) make us a few bracelets. We wandered into few new age stores and explored some mystical treasures (the area is full of that stuff) and then picked up the Verde shuttle and headed back.
We were running out of movies to see and since I'm a sucker for sci fi (and aliens seemed to be a big theme around there) we went to see Alien: Romulus. I was thoroughly entertained. Jon was bored. Sorry, Jon!
On Sunday, August 18th, we woke in the night to loud thunderstorms and a full day of clouds and rain. It was time to go home :-) Jon was to leave that night and my flight was scheduled for early morning Monday. Before he left though, we took one more stroll around the labyrinth. This time, I felt like I was able to walk it with true purpose and my inner dialogue flowed seemlessly. I was ready to move on and face the challenges ahead. I hadn't felt that clarity when I woke that morning and so feeling it in that 11th hour was both relieving and exciting. When I joined Jon in the middle, he had an expression of relief as well and everything just felt right. It was hard to say goodbye even though we'd see each other again in a span of 12 hours or so. This was an unforgettable experience.
