Our 2nd full day on this beautiful island! We headed back to Old Koloa Town (I've added the map again so you can see where that is) which is about a 25 minute drive from where we are staying in Kapa'a. Along the drive, there's a beautiful strip of road called the Tree Tunnel - I bet you get an idea of what that looks like! It actually comes up on Apple Maps as Tree Tunnel. It's such a cool drive! I saw it 20+ years ago when I was here for the first time and seeing it again now and in 2022 when we were here last. It never gets old. Pics don't do it justice but I'll give it a try:

Tree Tunnel - usually it's much greener but they've had a lack of rain recently.

Our goal for our trip to Koloa Town was for a local artist art and craft sale. I've given up on the souvenir crap for years now and look specifically for island made items to support local businesses. And it doesn't disappoint! I purchased a pair of earrings made with puka shells and a bracelet for Eddie made of stone and lava. Jon found a few framable prints from a local photographer.

Then we headed north to Hanalei Bay (which, on the map, is between Princeville and Haena) but first stopped in Lihue and hit Costco. Because, why not? We loaded up on some supplies for our condo and found a beach chair that was cheaper to puchase then to rent at some of the rental cabanas around here. I don't plan to bring it home but will pay it forward to someone around here :)

Hanalei Bay is a super cute surf town on the North Shore. The beach is beautiful and, surprisingly, wasn't too busy!

Here are some interesting facts about Hanalei - the word means "lei making" and it also means "crescent bay" which is fitting because the bay is crescent shaped. Two mountains can be seen from town - Mt. Na Molokama and Mamalahoa. There's also a Hanalei river and a Hanalei one lane bridge.

After hanging out at the beach for a few hours we wandered into town for a late lunch at Kalypso Island Bar & Grill. It's a fun ambiance with great food. Check out my review on Trip Advisor :) https://www.tripadvisor.com/Profile/doreens538/Review/994780729. We did a little shopping, walked around town and then headed back to our resort for pool time and relaxation. It was a good day.

Jon and I enjoying Kalypso, pics of street art and the outside of one of the many small, fun shops in Hanalei.
